Back To Basics

Finally, two weeks after my fall, I was able to run this week. At first -Wednesday- it wasn't much. Literally, probably a 30 minute run, 3 miles, 10 minute pace, we're talking real simple. But my muscles didn't seem to hate me that much and my legs felt pretty solid considering all I've been doing for two weeks is biking and swimming so that had me pretty pumped. Over the course of this week I've been hybridizing my workouts, gradually adding onto the running time and decreasing the bike time. So I think Thursday I did a 30 minute run and then an hour on the bike and that seemed to work pretty well. Finally today I was able to do about a 7 mile run (exactly 59:51 if you were curious) and I was just so happy with myself. And today was my last run in my hometown for a while, so I wanted to make it special. I headed out towards Titcomb, although I didn't quite think my body was ready for 10 miles, and just took in this amazing day. I mean I couldn't have asked for better weather: perfect blue skies, a crisp fall-like breeze, and a nice solid 72 degree temperature. The llamas on the side of the road also made my run pretty worthwhile. But I just got really emotional coming back down the hill that overlooks all of the mountains and Wilton (and all of Franklin county pretty much). I mean I'm leaving tomorrow! It was my last run here for quite sometime and of course having Lady GaGa come on with Edge of Glory just made it that much more bittersweet.

I feel like although I'm not able to ski or do a lot of upper body, I'm still able to keep my aerobic side of things going. And hopefully, with the clearance of the doc next Monday, I'll be able to start bounding relatively soon. So all and all I'm progressing. It might not be quite what I was at (because I was supposed to be at about 54 hours this month and I'm only at 20...) but what matters is that I'm okay and I'm getting back on the training wagon.

Anywho, tomorrow I'm finally heading off to Bowdoin. Wow, already! I'm going to be doing a Cabin/Hiking/Backpacking something of the like for my Pre-O trip so some of the skills I learned at Gould will come in handy like Mr. Hayward teaching us to start a fire with a string and bow, cooking peach cobbler over a campfire (delicious by the way), how to make WICKED good G.O.R.P, how not to leave your stuff out in the rain, things of that sort. And then it's a head first dive into classes, college life, and fall training. Sadie sent me off with a wonderful hike up Saddleback yesterday, even though it took us about 2 hours less than we were anticipating... But what matters is we got to see each other before the school year starts up. So here are the pics from that extravaganza!
Good luck to all the baby froshies out there! Start out strong! And keep training of course :)
Cheers!
Gonna miss this girl like krazy :)
