Randomonium

So I've been MIA for a little while, it's about time I post about something I've done recently. Well last week I finally took a nice easy week and visited a fellow former Gouldie down on the coast. Little Cranberry Island to be exact. Easily, probably one of the best trips of my summer as island life was so much fun. Granted the winter would be really difficult, but I could get used to not have a car, riding a bike all over the island, going to the beach at six in the morning, and jumping off the docks into 56 degree water everyday. All and all it was a fabulous week and it really gave my muscles a well deserved rest.
Such an amazing week :)
So when I jumped back into the intervals on Sunday, I felt awesome. I crammed in a skate session at dusk, as the heat this week was horrendous (as I'm sure all of you have noticed). And the heat doesn't really help when you need to get a solid chunk of time in. So I did some basic speeds/intervals (lvl 3/lvl 4 3-4-5-4-3-2-1min ladders with rest in between) on my skate skis and my muscles felt so relaxed and fresh. I actually ran into one of my old friends from my Mt. Blue days and her parents who were also enjoying the cooler weather on their bikes. As to why I was at a different location than usual, my fresh and beautiful stretch of pavement that was pristine for miles, was covered with a craptastic gravel top coat making it impossible to ski or bike on my road anymore. Boooooo.

Anywho the next day was probably my gutsiest workout of the year so far. A ten mile run, from my house to Titcomb and back. Now for those of you unfamiliar with a road called Walker Hill, let's just put it this way. It's downhill for about 3 miles and then you have to turn around. And go all the way back up. ALL THE WAY. And it's not a gradual winding easy little road, it's steep, full of potholes, and as I found out, full of dogs that like to chase you. So along those ten miles I saw two llamas wandering around on a driveway, was chased by 4 sets of dogs, and I managed to finish the longest run I've ever been on. Hoo to the hah. And I finished the day with lots and lots of eating. It was a wonderful day.

Lastly yesterday was a bounding sesh over at Titcomb. I actually woke up early before work at about 5:55am to get in some core work and warm myself up on the double pole machine so that I'd be fresh going into work. After successfully making breakfast sandwiches, stuffed french toast orders, chicken salad wraps, a crock pot full of delicious soup, white chocolate chip covered brownies, muffins, and donuts (busy day right?) I finally came home and went bounding. I did a pretty good progression of 4-7-14-7-4min lvl3 bounding sets. I think that bounding has significantly helped my overall threshold base as it's really the ultimate workout; it's specific, it's aerobic, and it's technical. So all and all, life is puttering along with the training. I have about an 18 hour week planned out for this week, with a long bike ride for today. And I'm heading over to the land of New Hampshire and my grandparents camp in New London so if you see a girl flying down hills on her bike looking like she's just having a ball (and if she's wearing a pink helmet and Bowdoin jersey) it's probably me.
Enjoy the cool air while it lasts!!! Keep training!!!
Cheers!
