Summer Time Commences

And while most typical teens find themselves diving into miles upon miles of books, tanning out on the beach, making frequent trips to the ice cream stand, or sleeping until they can't sleep anymore, that is not the summer lifestyle of the typical nordic skier. Summer is now in full swing and so is the summer training. I'm wrapping up my first block of training with a solid recovery week after last weeks 15 hours. It was a crazy week with roller skiing intervals, a solid double pole sesh, bounding, running and an amazing 30 bike ride up to Weld that was literally the best bike ride of my life. The sun was out, the sky was perfectly clear, and my legs felt great. Those are the days where I just find myself saying "man, I love doing what I do." I finally started my new job at The Baker's Market Cafe in Wilton (which you can check out by clicking HERE or by liking us on Facebook) and that gave me a dose of the real world when I found myself having to plan waaaayyy in advance what I was going to be doing for workouts around my work schedule. Thankfully I was able to plan to get Wednesdays or Saturdays off so that my longer training days can be accomodated for.

And as if the adventures couldn't stop, Sadie and I put on some poles and hiked our way up Sugarloaf last Sunday. Mind you, she had just completely destroyed the competition in her state track meet the day before (YAY SADIE!!) so she was a little tired. And we were joined by my former CVA Nordic buddy, Trent and his friend Jay. So all four nordies made their way up the mountain. Granted the bugs were awful, the sun at the beginning was miserable, and the boys wanted a food break every 10 minutes. But the complaining settled down into laughter as we hiked our way towards the rainy top. All and all it was a great hike to start my hiking for this summer. I think I'm planning on hitting some different mountains this year, or trying some different trails. I'll be over in the Whites eventually because I'm planning on joining Jenna and Kaitlin for some extreme hiking adventures. And I'll probably head up towards the Sugarloaf area again to do Cranberry and I'm crossing my fingers for doing Bigelow and Katahdin but we'll see how that all pans out...

The boys already crippling over in fatigue with Sadie yelling at them to keep going....

A secret stash of snow we have hidden away on the mountain :)

Sadie modeling off her future sponsors... Unless of course she gets Fischer :P
So let's think about what's coming up. Well, college! That's one thing. I can't wait to start my Bowdoin career as both an athlete and a student. YEAAAH U BEARS!!!
Anywho, what else. Oh, the REG camp in Craftsbury is in two weeks which I'm also extremely excited about. Just being able to make the team was exciting enough for me because I really didn't think I was going to. So this is just icing on my summer cake :) And plus a bunch of my friends from all over the region are going to be there along with some people I haven't had the chance to meet yet, so this is bound to be a grand summer adventure.
So stay cool everyone! Lot's-o-sunscreen and water, it's hawt outside.
Have fun!
Cheers!
